Bone grafting becomes a necessary procedure when the jawbone structure needs to be built up to accept a dental implant or other restoration. This is a common procedure that is applied prior to having dental implants or other periodontal treatments.
The bone used in the graft will be taken from a patient sample. In numerous cases, the bone used will be taken from another area of the mouth during drilling.
Bone fragments will be suctioned from the mouth and used for the graft. Patients also have the option to use cadaver bone fragments. They are harvested by bone banks and are considered safe for donation.
